Isaiah 53 Study

Recently I had the ability of doing a Bible Study Fellowship, homeletics-guided study on Isaiah chapter 53. While normal guidelines recommend summarizing content of a particular passage, creating divisions of the content, establishing the aim of the passage/summary sentence, and writing application questions – I took the study of this passage one step further. In my prayer for God to reveal a better and deeper understanding of Isaiah 53 alone – a passage I had memorized back in high school – I discovered just how much content from the entirety of the Bible, and even the theme of salvation, is imbedded in just this one prophetic chapter. I took the liberty in my study of not only just summarizing content in the wording of each verse in Isaiah 53, but also used my NIV study Bible to read and summarize the content of every cross-referenced passage that was written as a guide for each phrase and verse of Isaiah 53:1-12. This personal-guided study not only provided a much clearer picture of the content and theme of Isaiah 53, but helped me to understand the gravity of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for my salvation, and the weight of my depravity as a sinner saved by grace.

Entering this season of Lent and approaching Easter Sunday, 2023, it was recommended to me by a friend that I make this available for more people to study. My original plan was to provide every verse and cross-reference in a typed out format, but I took the liberty of providing only the template of all cross-references listed (but not wording provided) so that each person can read through Scripture to study this personally. Please feel free to share the template (link below) with others as you feel led to and enjoy (what I like to call) your own “deep-dive” study!
